We guarantee you respect and understanding during filming, as well as the opportunity to contribute to the creation of a better and more tolerant society.

Please write to us at docfilm@lgbtworldbeside.org to learn more about the project and discuss your participation. We value every step towards understanding and mutual respect, and your voice matters to us.

About project

Why do we flee from our homeland? Why have we become not only strangers but criminals on our own soil? So many questions and so few answers, all because we wanted to be ourselves.

The LGBT World Beside team, together with a professional team specializing in the production of social television and documentary projects, has decided to create a film that, through real stories, will shed light on the issues faced by the LGBTQ+ community in Russia. Laws, under the guise of preserving so-called "traditional values," have turned into a real nightmare for many people. We may no longer surprise anyone with discussions of violence, humiliation, forced treatment, and so on. But now, you can end up behind bars for wearing a colorful badge or having a "too extravagant" hairstyle. This is the "rainbow" reality of modern Russia.

Our heroes, those who have been lucky enough to preserve their lives or those who are still in danger while in Russia, will tell all about what they have had to face or what they have to fight against every day. While some have already found themselves in a free democratic country, others are forced to hide their sexuality. Now, any expression of oneself is under threat: bright clothing, behavior, everything that does not fit into the framework of society. The police, who used to turn a blind eye to LGBT rights violations, can now imprison you based on a regular denunciation. Essentially, a small percentage of the population has been prohibited from loving.

Through the film, we aim to show the real situation of people who have dared to take a difficult path and radically change their lives, as well as those who are still there, surviving in a cruel world. In the film, the stories of our heroes will be commented on by a psychologist who will explain the internal feelings of a person and the serious problems that can arise from being in total stress from a scientific point of view, but in an accessible "language." We will show the full spectrum of feelings experienced by queer individuals from Russia. They are people with strong spirits and very vulnerable souls, where there is still room for joy and hope.

The selected team consists of true professionals in their field. Each participant is close to the LGBT theme, and they also have vast experience in producing television, social programs, and documentary films. The work is planned to be extensive and interesting, with several employees located in Russia and the rest of the team in the Netherlands. We understand the full responsibility of the project and approach our work with great caution. And we are confident that our efforts will yield results.
