On the eve of June 13th, a meeting took place in Maastricht between LGBTQ+ refugees and Geert Gabriëls, a representative of the GroenLinks party.
The participants had the opportunity to see with their own eyes the historical site where the Maastricht Treaty was signed on February 7th, 1992, marking the beginning of the European Union, and familiarize themselves with the document itself. They learned more about the history of regional politics in Limburg and even went through a special ritual of a parliamentarian before entering the main hall. “No one is perfect. If in doubt, don’t speak,” says the legend of the two statues of the parliament. The participants were able to learn more about the current political landscape in parliament and even feel like real deputies discussing current political issues.
After the formal part of the meeting, Geert Gabriëls opened the floor for questions and comments from the attendees. Russian-speaking LGBTQ+ refugees asked questions about LGBTQ+ rights, integration into Dutch society, and opportunities for active participation in the country’s political life. Geert listened attentively to each question and tried to provide comprehensive answers.
This meeting seemed to leave no one indifferent. The participants expressed their gratitude to the politician for the information provided and noted his openness and understanding, especially regarding the issues faced by Russian-speaking LGBTQ+ refugees. “Yesterday in Maastricht, the parliament tour and meeting with the politician were excellent! I haven’t enjoyed something like this for a long time! It was informative, interesting, vibrant, and captivating,” shared one of the attendees. Another participant remarked, “LGBT World Beside, thank you for the organization, the meeting, and the support! Today was very informative, friendly, interesting, and heartfelt.” The same girl added, “Geert listened to me and said he is very sorry and genuinely ashamed that this is happening to us in his country. And although he cannot help us globally, he will try. Honestly, I burst into tears, I couldn’t hold back.”
Geert Gabriëls showed genuine interest in people’s problems and gave them hope for a better future in the Netherlands.
It should be noted that the meeting was organized by LGBT World Beside as the first stage of implementing their own special project called “Politicus.” Within this framework, activists and simply concerned individuals among Russian-speaking LGBTQ+ refugees will be able to meet with politicians of various levels in the Netherlands and ask them their questions.
ЛГБТК+ беженцы остались под большим впечатлением от встречи с политиком в Маастрихте
Накануне, 13 июня, В Маастрихте состоялась встреча ЛГБТК+ беженцев с представителем партии GroenLinks Geert Gabriёls.
Участникам мероприятия удалось увидеть своими глазами историческое место, где 7 февраля 1992 года был подписан Маастрихстский договор, положивший начало возникновению Европейского союза, и ознакомиться с самим документом; узнать подробнее об истории региональной политики Лимбурга и даже пройти особый ритуал парламентария перед входом в общий зал. “Каждый человек не идеален. Если сомневаешься – не говори” – гласит легенда двух статуй парламента. Участникам удалось подробнее ознакомиться с текущей политической расстановкой в парламенте и даже почувствовать себя настоящим депутатом, обсуждающим текущие политические проблемы.
После формальной части встречи Geert Gabriёls открыл дискуссию для вопросов и комментариев от присутствующих. Русскоязычные ЛГБТК+ беженцы задавали вопросы о правах ЛГБТК+ сообщества, интеграции в нидерландское общество и возможностях для активного участия в политической жизни страны. Geert внимательно выслушал каждый вопрос и постарался дать исчерпывающие ответы.
Эта встреча, кажется, никого не оставила равнодушным. Участники выразили благодарность политику за предоставленную информацию и отметили его открытость и понимание, особенно в отношении проблем, с которыми сталкиваются русскоязычные ЛГБТК+ беженцы. “Вчера в Маастрихте экскурсия в парламент и встреча с политиком была превосходна! Я давно не получал такого наслаждения! И познавательно, и интересно, живо и увлекательно”, – поделился один из присутствовавших. Другая участница отметила: “LGBT World Beside, спасибо вам за орагнизацию, встречу и поддержку! Сегодня было очень познавательно, дружелюбно, интересно и душевно”. Эта же девушка добавила: “Geert выслушал меня и сказал, что ему очень жаль и действительно стыдно, что с нами это происходит в его стране. И что глобально он не может нам помочь, но постарается. Честно скажу, я всплакнула, не удержалась”.
Geert Gabriёls проявил настоящий интерес к проблемам людей и дал им надежду на лучшее будущее в Нидерландах.
Надо отметить, что встреча была организована LGBT World Beside как первый этап реализации собственного специального проекта “Politicus”, в рамках которого активисты и просто неравнодушные, интересующиеся люди из числа русскоговорящих ЛГБТК+ беженцев смогут встречаться с политиками разного уровня в Нидерландах и задавать им свои вопросы.
