On December 22, 2023, the Dommelhuis Son en Breugel hosted the Samensterk charity concert and photo exhibition highlighting the lives of LGBT+ refugees in the Netherlands. The guests were residents of the community and representatives of the LGBT community of the Netherlands and Russian-speaking countries.
The evening opened with a photo exhibition featuring the works of Siberian emigrant photographer Stas Vokman. Stas, going through the asylum procedure, documents this difficult path, telling the stories of refugees through photographs. His works, distinguished by realism and relevance, did not leave the guests indifferent. They gave viewers a glimpse into the lives of LGBT+ refugees and better understand their struggles and aspirations.
After the photo exhibition, pianist from the Rodion Trio Mark Toxopeous appeared on stage. He performed new arrangements of works by Tchaikovsky and Vivaldi, as well as little-known classical compositions. Masterly mastery of the instrument and new sound aroused great interest among listeners and captured their attention.
The vocalist of the Hague choir Denis Melmav presented several vocal numbers. He performed Russian romances, which are rarely heard in the Netherlands. Their performance caused real delight among the listeners and allowed them to get acquainted with the music of Russian culture.
The cozy atmosphere of the evening was created by its host Leon Augustein. As a motivational speaker, he easily connected with the audience and maintained it throughout the evening. Particularly memorable was the presentation of his book “IK,” in which he talks about the difficult path of self-acceptance and encourages readers to value their identity no matter what. Everyone received an autographed copy of the book, which was a pleasant surprise for the guests.
Dmitry Alimov and Harlem van Heizer spoke about the difficulties faced by LGBT people in Russia, as well as the problems that refugees go through in the Netherlands. Their stories allowed guests to better understand the complexities of LGBT+ refugees and the importance of supporting and understanding them.
After the end of the concert program, the guests of the evening continued to communicate in a relaxed atmosphere, trying delicious snacks and drinks, sharing their impressions with each other and getting to know the artists better. It was a wonderful time when people from different cultures and nationalities came together in support of LGBT+ refugees and expressed their solidarity.

Op 22 december 2023 was het Dommelhuis Son en Breugel gastheer van het Samensterk liefdadigheidsconcert en de fototentoonstelling waarin de levens van LGBT+ vluchtelingen in Nederland werden belicht. De gasten waren inwoners van de gemeenschap en vertegenwoordigers van de LHBT-gemeenschap van Nederland en Russischtalige landen.
De avond werd geopend met een fototentoonstelling met het werk van de Siberische emigrantenfotograaf Stas Vokman. Bijzonder gedenkwaardig was de presentatie van zijn boek ‘IK’, waarin hij vertelt over het moeilijke pad van zelfacceptatie en lezers aanmoedigt hun identiteit hoe dan ook te waarderen. Iedereen ontving een gesigneerd exemplaar van het boek, wat een aangename verrassing was voor de gasten.
Dmitry Alimov en Harlem van Heizer spraken over de moeilijkheden waarmee LHBT’ers in Rusland worden geconfronteerd, maar ook over de problemen waar vluchtelingen in Nederland mee kampen. Dankzij hun verhalen konden de gasten de complexiteit van LHBT+-vluchtelingen beter begrijpen en hoe belangrijk het is hen te ondersteunen en te begrijpen.
Na afloop van het concertprogramma bleven de gasten van de avond in een ontspannen sfeer communiceren, heerlijke hapjes en drankjes uitproberen, hun indrukken met elkaar delen en de artiesten beter leren kennen. Het was een prachtige tijd waarin mensen uit verschillende culturen en nationaliteiten samenkwamen om LHBT+-vluchtelingen te steunen en hun solidariteit te betuigen.
